When Project Sammy got in touch, they were desperate for a more functional entrance at their 1975 split-level home. The interior staircase was incredibly steep (and note to code) in addition to the tiny mid-landing that provided no space for coats/shoes or for more than one person at a time.

After studying multiple options, a 275 SF addition was the right solution for solving the constrained entrance. The addition also added an additional bedroom/office which the clients greatly appreciated since they both work from home.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

Providing an addition that amplified all the good things about the 1975 split-level home while not making it look like a tacked-on mass to the front. The use of timeless materials and forms brought a nice contrast to the existing conditions
